Concerto Festival

Another of Jane’s favorite educational outreach opportunities is the Reno Pops Concerto Festival, generally held near the end of March.  This is more than a “Concerto Competition,” though it does serve some of the same functions for musicians in the greater Northern Nevada/Northern California region.  Judges are selected not only for their discriminating musical taste, but also their extraordinary pedagogical skills and encouraging educational demeanor.  Participants of all ages are invited to participate, from the youngest Suzuki violinist to adults who want to dust of their favorite concerto movement; and all receive encouragement and helpful comments from a panel of judges.  Winners are selected from each division, and one or more performers will also be invited to perform their concerto movement with the Reno Pops Orchestra in the upcoming season.  See renopops.org for more details.
